🚪The Open Metaverse Alliance (OMA3) opens its doors. Since first announcing its plans to join forces over the summer, we've been keeping an eye on the Avengers of the metaverse. At this year's Web Summit in Lisbon, OMA3 finally revealed more details.

▪️ Memberships are currently offered across two tiers: sponsors and creators.

▪️ New forces to be reckoned with include Decentraland, Voxels, Meta Metaverse, Superworld and Wivity. Yuga Labs and Unstoppable Domains are also in the gang.

▪️ It'll maintain a DAO governance structure, and it's still undetermined how (if at all) it'll coexist with the Metaverse Standards Forum, a similar organization comprised primarily of big Web2 tech brands.

🎮 The game never stops — it's simply, Immutable. Meme stock GameStop's NFT Marketplace is live on Immutable X, after first announcing their plans to sync up in February of this year. The partnership establishes an up to $100M fund in Immutable X’s IMX tokens, which they intend to use for grants to creators of NFT content and technology. 👃 Do you smell that? Yeah, we're in VINAVerse. VICUNA is bringing the real world to virtual reality, with a mission to provide an end-to-end solution to enrich the user experience within the metaverse. In Q1 of next year, they're releasing the first VR game where you can feel and smell your opponent using haptic and sensory technology.

🌎 (Real) World News

🇲🇽 Ay Caramba! The "Island Shopping Mall" is Mexico's first metaverse mall. The brainchild of a Mexican entrepreneur is taking the classic mall experience digital, via a mobile app that's now available on both Apple and Android phones.

▪️ Users accessing this new virtual world will be able to make online purchases and earn gems and coins that can be exchanged for discount coupons or products in several shopping centers distributed throughout the island.

▪️ 80+ participating brands (soon to be 800+) including Victoria’s Secret and Bath & Body Works.

🛍️ Brand New World

🤝 Warner Bros Discovery Sports x Infinity Reality — a new sports metaverse.

▪️ Warner Bros already has some skin in the game; they teamed up with Elvio on bringing Lord of the Rings to the metaverse, and have an ongoing partnership with NFT marketplace Niftys.

▪️ Sports communities, athletes, and brands will be able to interact in virtual environments constructed around upcoming Discovery Sports Events properties.

▪️ The first experience will celebrate the UCI Track Champions League Grand Finale in December.

Entry Name: The Iceberg

Q: Describe your conceptual process.

A: This project was created to host any concert, party, or event, where people want to see others as much as they want to be seen. I wanted to play with transparency and the concept of the iceberg — having one area that's more visible above the surface, along with a hidden half that's "underwater." There are two main spaces in the iceberg, and multiple hallways to guide you around; as if you were underwater, you can almost see it all, through tones of blue and icy reflections.

Q: What’s an aspect of your build that might go unnoticed by the untrained eye?

A: Transparency when filled with avatars. I think that is the greatest strength of the build and seeing it empty does not fully do it justice.

Q: Favorite part of the Buildathon?

A: The openness of the call. It could be ANYTHING! At the same time, sometimes I would have so many ideas and not enough time, or struggle with thinking what would be better liked or fit DCL better.
