🍟 McDonald's & Karen X Cheng Ring In Lunar New Year. We're big fans of this collab between the fast food giant and digital creator Karen X Cheng (give her a follow). This activation has it all – a mind-bending AR filter; an immersive build in Spatial that will host live programming; and an ad that is among the first to integrate NeRF (neural radiance fields) tech by utilizing AI to create 3D scenes.
👃 A Sense-ational VR Headset. More news coming out of last week's CES – OVR Technology (not to be confused with augmented reality metaverse OVER) showcased a headset that enables users to experience scents via aroma cartridges. Tech giant HTC also unveiled a VR device designed to compete with Meta's current offerings. The pairing of haptics with AR/VR devices is compelling in concept, but its long-term viability will ultimately depend on the quality of the experiences offered to consumers while using these products.
🌐 BBC Ponders if the Metaverse is Your New Workplace. Technology writer Jane Wakefield did a deep dive into the question on everyone's mind: How much will the metaverse impact my life in the years to come? While the answer is still up for debate, we're in agreement with her opener, "When we look back in 50 years' time, it is likely that the 2D internet we now all use will seem laughably archaic."

🚽 Yuga Labs Drops a Doo-key. The Bored Ape creators are getting dirty with the latest expansion of their (in)famous NFT universe. Next week, BAYC and MAYC holders will be able to claim a free Sewer Pass, which will grant access to a skill-based minting experience called "Dookey Dash." Participation will grant holders access to a "power source," with more details to be revealed throughout the year. Check out Yuga's roadmap if you need to catch up on the BAYC timeline.
🐉 Dungeons & Dragons Puts Water on the Web3 Fire. D&D publisher Wizards of the Coast announced that as part of planned upcoming license changes, derivative web3 content such as NFTs will be prohibited. The news follows Minecraft's decision last summer to ban NFTs. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
