📈 Metaverse Tokens Ride a New Year's High. Tokens for a number of metaverse projects, including MANA (Decentraland), SAND (The Sandbox), and AXS (Axie Infinity), have all seen a notable spike since the calendar flipped to 2023. The driving force behind the momentum is up for debate, but recent headlines of an impending Apple AR/VR headset reveal may be one contributing factor.

💸 ImmutableX Secures the Bag. Another headline for the bulls out there...ImmutableX games collected more than $900M of web3 funding in 2022, marking a high-water mark for the industry. Polygon followed with a not-too-shabby $850M in combined funding, according to the report by Delphi Digital. In total, gaming accounted for 62% of all web3 investment last year.

🛍 Brand New World

🚽 Yuga Labs' Newest Drop Doesn't Stink. We told you last week that the Bored Ape creators were planning a new NFT collection and infinite-runner game mint (think Temple Run with 💩). Bathroom jokes—and a slight production delay—aside, this week's launch was a success, netting more than $6M in just a few hours. It also reignited conversations about NFT marketplaces and creator royalties.

🐈 Pets + Web3 Gaming = VC Money. In August, Neopets Meta launched the alpha version of its metaverse as a spinoff of the Neopets platform that first launched in 1999. Safe to say that investors are confident in millennials' appetite for nostalgia, as well as adoption by younger generations. The project announced a new funding round totaling $4M, with backing from a notable group including Polygon Ventures and Blizzard Avalanche Ecosystem Fund.
