šŸ“¦ Game & Metaverse Tokens Kick off 2023 With a Bang | Weekly Parcel Delivery

šŸ•¹ Game On

Tencent gets Meta. Facebook may be banned in China, but that’s not stopping Tencent – the Chinese internet giant and world’s largest video game publisher – from exploring a strategic partnership with Zuck. As part of the potential deal, Tencent would be the exclusive distributor of Meta Quest headsets throughout the region, and would also develop Chinese versions of games for the platform. Needless to say, this would be a massive boon for Meta’s Reality Labs, which lost an estimated $4.7 billion in 2022.

Game & metaverse tokens start 2023 on a high note. According to DappRadar’s latest Blockchain Games Report, gamers made up nearly half (48%) of all blockchain activity in January. The first month of the year also saw the market caps for top gaming tokens increase by 122% on average. The report is noteworthy in what’s been billed as a ā€œbuildingā€ year for blockchain gaming – investments into the industry topped $156 million in January alone.

Microsoft tries to uphold its duty to gamers. In a move meant to assuage fears about its proposed Activision takeover, Microsoft signed a 10-year agreement which guarantees that hallmark titles like Call of Duty will be released on Nintendo platforms the same day as Xbox consoles. We’ll see if the news does anything to calm antitrust concerns that have been ongoing since the $69 billion deal rocked the gaming and tech industries last year.

šŸ› Brand New World

Puma’s super NFTs sell out. Building upon its ongoing web3 project The Nitro Collection, sportswear brand Puma unveiled plans for its Super PUMA PFPs. Based on a cartoon mascot created as part of a branded comic book from the 70’s, the mint took place on Wednesday and sold out shortly after becoming available to the general public. We’ll see how the Puma team continues to use web3 as a vehicle for storytelling as well as shoe design innovation…

A Lambo you can actually afford (maybe). Are you even a car manufacturer if you don’t have your own NFT collection at this point? From Toyota to McLaren, seemingly everyone has gotten in on the action – so it’s not surprising to see Lamborghini come back for a second go-round as part of the ā€œEpic Road Tripā€ series they launched last year. The collection will be available exclusively on digital collectibles marketplace VeVe, which has previously partnered with other global pop culture brands including Marvel and Disney. Here’s hoping the launch goes more smoothly than Porsche’s.
